Create Singleton 2035 - Community Strategic Plan

No longer on display. Expired on 16 August 2024, 05:00 PM

Singleton Council is reviewing our 10-year Community Strategic Plan and we’re inviting all residents, businesses, organisations and community groups to be involved in Create Singleton 2035.

What is the Community Strategic Plan?

The Community Strategic Plan is our most important document, and outlines the community's vision and priorities for the future of Singleton over a ten-year period.

At each new term of Council, the plan is reviewed to make sure it is aligned with community priorities. It is prepared as a reference tool for Council, state government agencies, community groups, non-government organisations, businesses and individuals, who all have a part to play in building our ideal future.

The Create Singleton 2035 Community Strategic Plan is the blueprint for the future of Singleton for the next 10 years, setting the course for a vibrant, progressive, sustainable, connected and resilient community.

Why should you get involved?

This is the best way for everyone in our community to be part of setting the vision and direction for Singleton for the next 10 years, and influence Council’s priority areas under the Delivery Program including capital works for the next four years. It’s easy and accessible for everyone to get involved. From now until 16 August, there’s plenty of opportunities to be part of the discussion, whether it’s face-to-face at one of our pop-up stalls, at one of our workshops, or at other community events.

What is a Community Strategic Plan?

A community strategic plan (CSP) represents the highest level of strategic planning undertaken by local councils.

The plan identifies the main priorities and aspirations of the community, providing a clear set of strategies to achieve Singleton's vision for the future.

The CSP is the guiding document for our four-year delivery plans and yearly operational plans. It tells us what services we should be providing to our community, what buildings and other infrastructure we will need to provide these services and what are the key things you want to see happen in our local government area (LGA) over the next decade.

Singleton Council plays a leadership role in initiating and developing the community strategic plan on behalf of the community, however it is not wholly responsible for its implementation. Other partners such as state government agencies, non-government agencies, businesses and community groups also play a key role in delivering Singleton's vision for the future.

Why are we reviewing the plan?

As per the legislative requirements of the guidelines NSW Government’s Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) framework, Singleton Council is expected to conduct reviews of the Community Strategic Plan (CSP) every four years and minor reviews in the second year of the Plan to assess any shifting community priorities, values, expectations and needs.

How do I view the current plan?

You can easily view the current Create Singleton 2032 Community Strategic Plan on our website here

With the next local government election scheduled for September 2024, will the new Councillors get a say in the draft CSP?

Absolutely! Councillors are the community's advocates and representatives on our elected council.

In partnership with the community, Councillors will contribute to development of these documents, ensuring they reflect as closely as possible the needs and desires of our community.

When will the draft CSP go on exhibition for the public to provide comment?

The Draft Create Singleton 2035 Community Strategic Plan (CSP) will go on public exhibition in 2025.

This will give the new Councillors the opportunity to collaborate with our community, consider their wishes and aspirations, and make amendments as required.

When will the new CSP document be adopted by Council?

In accordance with the Local Government Act 1993, the CSP must be adopted by 30 June in the year following a local government election.

Community wants and needs might change over the next few years. When will we have a chance to review these documents again?

Councils are required to undertake a review process every four years to assess how effective the CSP is in achieving its objectives in line with the local government election cycle. This review will help identify the community’s current vision, aspirations and priorities.
