Non Residential Water Restrictions
Commercial water consumers have an important role to play in conserving Singleton’s water and reducing the likelihood that greater restrictions will be introduced.
Under Level 3 Water Restrictions, non-residential water customers (agriculture, commercial, government and industry) are required to prepare a Water Saving Action Plan (WSAP). The WSAP must be developed and submitted to Council for approval.
Under Level 4 Water Restrictions, these WSAPs must be implemented.
What is a Water Saving Action Plan (WSAP)?
This Commercial Water Saving Action Plan (WSAP) is a tool to assist non-residential users in assessing their current water use levels and implementing changes that can be made to improve their water efficiency.
Potential benefits of completing WSAP include:
- Improved management of water consumption resulting in reduced water-related costs;
- Change in staff behavior and strengthened reputation;
- Development of a plan for the continuity of activities, where appropriate, in times of drought;
- Support of broad community efforts in reducing the likelihood that greater restriction levels are introduced in the future.
Who needs to submit a Commercial Water Saving Action Plan (WSAP)?
The top non-residential water users across the Singleton Local Water Utility Supply Areas will be identified and contacted about developing and submitting a WSAP. Once the WSAP has been approved by Council, the businesses will need to implement and comply with their WSAP.
Council will be monitoring water usage and site inspections will be conducted to ensure the approved WSAP has been implemented and complied with.
Council encourages all businesses to review their activities and implement changes to improve water efficiencies.
