Water Meter Replacement Program

Singleton Council's Water Meter Replacement Program is an initiative that aims to replace water meters that are 10 years or older.

Singleton Council's Water Supply has approximately 8,000 water meters, with 3,000 of these being more than 10 years old. Old meters can under read or stop working. Council aims to replace these meters to ensure they continue to provide accurate readings.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will my water meter be replaced?

Water meters will be replaced based on age and not at the request of the customer. This means Council may not replace the whole street or suburb at the same time.

Council's water and sewer network crew will knock on the door prior to replacing the water meter. If no one is home, an information card will be left to inform the customer that the water meter has been replaced. Keeping in mind that water meter replacements have a very limited impact on customers, with outages usually less than 30 minutes.

What do I need to do?

  • Ensure Council staff can safely access your property and make sure all animals are contained.
  • Please maintain the area around your water meter to ensure Council staff can easily locate and access the meter.

How will I know if my water meter has been replaced?

Council's water and sewer network crew will knock on the door to notify the customer that the water supply will be turned off whilst the meter is replaced. Residential water meter replacements generally take less than 30 minutes. If no one is home, an information card will be left in the mailbox to inform the customer that the water meter has been replaced.

You will also notice a shiny new water meter!

Is there a fee for water meter replacements?

There is no cost to the property owner for the replacement of meters through our ongoing replacement program. However, if your meter needs to be replaced due to damage that has been caused by a household member, or visitor to the residence, a repair charge can be passed onto you.

What happens next?

Council will update the water meter details for your property. On your next water bill, you will notice two separate water meter readings.
