Damaged or Stolen Water Meters
Damaged Water Meter
If a water meter has been damaged maliciously, unintentionally or by natural elements, you must notify Council. Council will arrange for the repair or replacement of the meter.
Water meters can be disguised by long grass and overgrown gardens and are frequently damaged by customers whilst maintaining their yard. Before starting yard work, take a moment to check the water meter and even consider clearing a space around it. Damaged water meters usually require repair by Council Network Crews, which can lead to additional costs for the customer.
Stolen Water Meter
If your water meter has been stolen, you are required to report the theft to the Police and notify Council of the stolen water meter. Council will arrange for a new meter to be installed.
Water Theft
Chapter 16, Part 3 of the Local Government Act 1993 to tamper with a water meter or to divert water in a manner that water usage is not recorded on the meter. This includes the damaging, removing or fraudulently altering the index or preventing a meter from registering the quantity of water supplied.
Any connection to Councils water supply system, not authorised by or made by Council is considered an illegal connection and will be reported and investigated as suspected instances of water theft.
