Public Transport

There are a range of public transport options in Singleton, including buses and trains. The NSW Government has primary responsibility for public transport planning and service provision.

Council’s role in public transport is primarily one of facilitation through:

  • Supportive land use and development decisions
  • Consulting with transport providers and advocating network improvements
  • Provision of infrastructure such as shelters and seating, and good walking connections to public transport nodes
  • Supporting other levels of government to promote public transport use
  • Parking management.

Trip Planning

To plan your trip using public transport, go to the trip planner on the Transport for NSW website. You can also use this site to access comprehensive information about fares and tickets, maps, timetables, service changes and using public transport.

Apps

A number of apps have been developed that allow you to track your service, real-time. Apps allow you to view what you need to know, such as:

  • Where your train or bus is now
  • Train service updates such as cancellations and delays
  • If selected train stations have a lift or escalator
  • The closest bus stops and routes
  • Estimated bus arrival times.

For more information on the available apps and other ways to keep up to date, visit the Transport for NSW website.

Opal Card

The Opal card is an easy, convenient way of paying for your travel on public transport. The Opal card is a free smartcard ticket that you load value onto and keep for travel on all public transport in Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Hunter, Illawarra and Southern Highlands.

Customers using an Opal card tap on at a card reader at the start of their journey and tap off at the end. The fare is calculated automatically and deducted from the value stored on the Opal card. Your balance is displayed every time you tap on or off.

You can pick up an unregistered Opal card from one of 2000 retailers across the Opal network area, including in Singleton, or order online or by phone. Adult, Child/Youth, Senior/Pensioner and Concession Opal cards are available.
