Singleton Sports Council Awards

The Singleton Sports Council Awards acknowledge the outstanding performance of sports people and administrators.

Nominating someone for an award is a great way to acknowledge people who commit themselves fully to excelling in sports performance or administration. The awards started in 1980, with hundreds of locals honoured over the years.

Categories

  • Junior Sports Star (success achieved before their 18th birthday)
  • Senior Sports Star (success achieved before their 35th birthday)
  • Over 35 Sports Star (success achieved after their 35th birthday)
  • Junior Team Sport Stars
  • Senior Team Sports Stars
  • Contribution to Sport (Administrators, Officials, Volunteers, Length of Service)

Nomination Forms

Award Criteria

  1. Nominees must be either residents of Singleton Council local government area, attending school in Singleton or registered with a Singleton sporting body
  2.  Attending a recognised sports academy as an inductee, having previously met the conditions of 1 above
  3. Nominees are eligible if they have excelled in their sport and have achieved success at a level equal to two steps above club level. As all sports have different succession paths the SSC will use their best endeavours to ensure all the nominees are worthy. For example some sports allow self-nomination for State and National titles without any qualifying events. This would not be seen as meeting the standard. However winning this type of event would qualify given the quality of the field
  4. Nominees must be amateurs. Previous winners are eligible to nominate but if they are of equal merit to another nominee then preference would go to the first time winner
  5.  Nominees can win multiple times and in multiple age groups if worthy
  6. Nominees will be sought by calls to all sports in SCLGA, known individuals referred by parents, friends etc., and those featured in the Singleton Argus
  7. Those candidates that have reached the required standard are encouraged to complete the  form and submit it digitally as a preference or hard copy if necessary to the Sports Councils Awards Secretary
  8. A maximum of 10 finalists in each individual category (5 in the team’s categories) may then be selected based on nomination forms received
  9. Finalists will be advised by email/mail of their selection and urged to attend the presentation event
  10. The Selection committee will then select all category winners
  11. All winners to receive a trophy or plaque
  12. All finalists in each category nominated will receive a certificate and a small prize
  13. Nomination forms will to be used for selection purposes only

Judging

  • Nominations will be considered by a panel. At least one independent person will oversee the judging
  • The panel may determine that no nominee is suitable for an award in a category
  • Council and the panel reserves the right to transfer nominees to other categories based on appropriateness
  • The decision of the panel will be final and no correspondence will be entered into
  • The judging of candidates will be based on the information provided about the Award category, and if it is considered necessary a brief interview of short-listed candidates
