Singleton ready to apply for more community projects under R4R

Singleton is ready to get to work on its applications for the latest round of the Resources for Regions program after Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro officially announced $75 million available under Round Eight at Singleton Rugby Club today.

Under changes to the program implemented last year, Singleton is eligible to apply for $8,005,210 with applications to close on 12 July 2021.

The venue for the event was chosen after Singleton Rugby Club received $500,000 under Round Seven, as part of a total of $4,571,281 for 15 infrastructure projects and community programs announced for the Singleton local government area last year.

Representatives from the community organisations that were successful in the previous round joined Mr Barilaro along with the Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore, Councillors and Singleton Council staff at today’s announcement.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the Resources for Regions Program is all about giving back to mining communities like Singleton with funds for projects that will improve local amenities and infrastructure.

“The NSW Nationals and Liberals are building a safer, stronger regional NSW and are committed to supporting this important sector,” Mr Barilaro said.

“Resources for Regions was created to stimulate local economies, while creating new jobs and delivering infrastructure and community programs that provide long term benefits for mining communities, and that’s exactly what it’s doing.

“I’m thrilled to be able to announce the opening of applications today for the $75 million Round Eight of the program, which will provide funding for more great projects in regional NSW mining towns like Singleton.”

Cr Moore said it was another demonstration of the NSW Government recognising the contribution the people of Singleton made to the State’s economy.

“Council has drafted a list of projects that meet the Resources for Regions criteria, and we’ll be working through those to prepare our applications for Round 8. We have already held a number of meetings with community groups andokept in touch with the staff at Regional NSW,” she said.

“That’s on top of delivering the projects that were funded under Round Seven.

“A significant change to the program made 30 per cent of the total funding available for community programs to support mining-affected communities, in addition to infrastructure projects.

“Round Seven was also the first time Singleton was guaranteed an allocation under the Program.

“We’ve already seen the diversity of projects that were announced under Round Seven, from the new grandstand for Singleton Rugby Club and a shared pathway at Broke through to a mental health services program and business advisory hub pilot program.

“I’m pleased to have Mr Barilaro in Singleton today to meet with the people who are benefiting from the Resources for Regions program, so he can see how worthwhile these changes are and what this program means for our community.”

Resources for Regions is part of the $2 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to support growing regional centres, activate local economies and improve services and community infrastructure for regional communities.

Successful applications will be announced in September 2021.
