A call for more options for entertainment and support for youth headline the community’s key priorities in a draft document to guide the direction for Singleton for the next 10 years.

The draft Create Singleton 2035 Community Strategic Plan is now on public exhibition until Wednesday 16 April 2025, and once adopted will set the foundation for all of Singleton Council’s operations for the current term to achieve the community’s vision to be vibrant, progressive, connected, sustainable and resilient.

Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore said the draft document was developed based on more than 3,500 community interactions that included 725 surveys, 1065 dotmocracy responses and 525 Facebook and Instagram interactions at a range of activities and events last year.

“We went out to our community to ask people of all ages their vision for Singleton for the next 10 years, and the result is a very clear brief that rates entertainment/activities, youth, retail, hospitality, and shared pathways as out top focus areas,” she said.

“There was a particular emphasis on supporting young people—who, according to Census data account for 19 per cent of our residents—to continue to live and work in Singleton, as well as laying the foundation for a vibrant community with equal opportunities for work and leisure.

“To that end, the draft Plan contains specific actions to support and empower our youth to build their confidence and pursue their interests in social, recreational and employment activities alongside opportunities for our community to be prepared for and embrace jobs for the future.”

General Manager Justin Fitzpatrick-Barr said the draft Create Singleton 2035 Community Strategic Plan was the starting point to build Council’s Delivery Plan and Operational Plans for the next four years.

“Crucially, the draft Plan captures the aspirations, gaps and needs of our community, based on input from the people who live, work and do business in our local government area,” he said.

“We’re taking that input very seriously with actions to address a wide range of community needs, from providing safe and reliable water and sewer services through to improving transport connectivity and increasing preparedness for natural disasters.

“This is the best opportunity for everyone in our community to review the direction for Singleton for the next 10 years, and provide your feedback by Wednesday 16 April.”
