Singleton Public Library a hub for aged care information and resources

Accessing information about aging and aged care reforms is now easier than ever with an interactive aged care resource hub now up and running at Singleton Public Library.

Singleton’s Library is one of just 25 in Australia selected to host an Ageing and Aged Care Engagement Hub as part of a Federal Government pilot program sharing information about aged care and industry reforms.

Vicki Brereton, Council’s Director Organisation and Community Capacity, said Singleton Public Library was an ideal location to host such a valuable resource for the community to access.

“Singleton Public Library has a strong history of community engagement and a close relationship with community groups such as the Singleton U3A (University of the Third Age), which makes it the perfect candidate to host an Aging and Aged Care Engagement Hub,” she said.

“Through this hub, our community can access information about the types of services available to them as they age, how to start the process to organise local care options, access online training opportunities and find out what changes are happening as part of aged care reforms being implemented following the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

“With over 5,000 residents aged 60 and above living in Singleton, accounting for 20 per cent of the population (2021 Census), having this hub of information and resources readily available at the fingertips of our seniors, their friends, family, and carers, is truly invaluable.”

The Aging and Aged Care Engagement Hub will be available to access until Christmas.

Library staff will be on hand to support people accessing the hub.

A variety of information pamphlets are available for people to pick up from the hub located at the entrance to the Library, or visitors can access the hub’s website through a supplied iPad.

An important function of the hub is gathering feedback from people approaching their senior years, seniors, family members and carers about what quality aged care looks like to them. People accessing the hub will be invited to take part in surveys to provide feedback to the Department of Health and Aged Care.
