Singleton is celebrating NAIDOC Week with a free Family fun day event on Wednesday 10 July—and everyone is invited to get involved.

This year's NAIDOC Week theme, “Keep the Fire Burning: Blak, Loud and Proud” highlights the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity.

The Singleton NAIDOC Committee has organised a variety of activities for the day, kicking off with a Welcome to country And Smoking ceremony, speeches and cake cutting followed by a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through song and dance by local Indigenous children and families.

People of all ages can get involved in cultural workshops including painting, storytelling, traditional dance, weaving, bush tucker tasting and boomerang throwing.

The event will be held at Singleton Showground from 10am to 2pm.

“This is an invitation to everyone in the community to join this important celebration,” Chairperson of the Singleton NAIDOC Committee, Jade Perry said.

“Whether you’re participating in a workshop, enjoying a performance, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, this event is a great opportunity for everyone in the community to come together to celebrate the oldest living and continuing culture in the world.

“It’s wonderful that more and more people and services are getting involved in the Singleton NAIDOC event each year, and we are grateful for the generous support and contribution of our sponsors Mach Energy ACDF, AGL, BHP, Glencore and Aboriginal Affairs in making it possible.”
