Singleton’s first female popularly-elected mayor has been returned to the top job for a third consecutive term, vowing to work even harder to repay the community’s confidence in her.
Cr Sue Moore was formally declared as mayor with 54.45 per cent of the vote after preferences following the 14 September local government ballot, continuing to hold on to the role since 2016. She was first elected to mayor in 2008-2012.
She paid tribute to fellow mayoral candidates Danny Thompson and Peree Watson.
“It’s a great privilege to serve the people of Singleton, especially as Mayor, and even more so for a third consecutive term,” Cr Moore said.
“I also acknowledge my fellow mayoral candidates and look forward to working with them for the benefit of our community moving forward.
“There’s a long list of achievements that I’m very proud of since I was first elected in 2016, not least being recognised as the best regional council in NSW by taking out the most prestigious award in local government, the Bluett Award, in 2023.
“But this is not a role I take lightly, and never for granted—and there’s still plenty more hard work to do.
“Our community is already telling us what our priorities should be in the next term through the review of the Create Singleton 2035 Community Strategic Plan, and staff are working through over 3,500 interactions to help set the course for the next four years and beyond.
“I’ve no doubt that the success we’re used to in Singleton will continue into the new term.”
The new Council will be formally inducted at a special ceremony on Tuesday 15 October 2024 outside Singleton Public Library at 4.30pm, ahead of the first meeting for the new term in the Council Chamber at 5.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
