She’s been a mainstay on Australian television screens for decades – and now Jean Kittson AM is coming to Singleton for a free event to help residents improve their health and wellbeing.

The health campaigner and author of You’re Still Hot to Me, which reflects on her personal experiences of menopause, and We Need to Talk About Mum & Dad, a witty and practical guide to supporting ageing loved ones, is headlining Singleton Explore Women’s Wellness at Singleton Civic Centre on Thursday 14 March.

The free half-day event is hosted by Singleton Council in collaboration with Singleton Hospital, supported by major sponsor The Bloomfield Group, and is a key part of Council’s Singleton Explore Wellbeing initiative being delivered in partnership with the NSW Government to create a healthier, more connected and resilient community.

Vicki Brereton, Council’s Director Organisation and Community Capacity said morning tea catered by Singleton High School hospitality students was on offer, along with and a panel discussion and a Tai Chi session at the event to run from 9am to 1pm.

Local providers including Seniors Rights Service, Singleton Family Support, Carers Gateway, Wesley Mission CareFinders, HNE Health and Singleton Neighbourhood Centre will also be on hand to provide information about services available locally.

“Not only can people hear from the hilarious Jean Kittson AM who has written books and spoken publicly about an important women’s health matter – menopause – but also a panel of health experts who will be discussing nutrition, exercise and osteoporosis,” Mrs Brereton said.

“Explore Women’s Wellness is a great opportunity for the people in Singleton, particularly its women, to come together, learn how to improve their health and wellbeing, and meet with some of the health, support and care services available in our community.

“Council is proud to work with the NSW Government, Singleton Hospital and The Bloomfield Group to deliver this important initiative.”

Nicola Churms, Health Services Manager – Singleton Health Services, said she looked forward to seeing so many groups come together in support of the community.

“Explore Women’s Wellness is a very successful collaboration between NSW Health, Singleton Health Committee, Council and The Bloomfield Group to encourage people across Singleton to take some time to focus on their health and wellbeing,” she said.

Damien Butler, Community Relations Manager at The Bloomfield Group’s Rix’s Creek Mine, said supporting health and wellbeing has always been a priority for the business.

“This is sure to be a wonderful event for the entire Singleton community, and with so many of our employees and their families living in Singleton, I know the Bloomfield team will also take a lot from the experience,” he said.

Singleton Explore Women’s Wellness coincides with celebrations for International Women’s Day (8 March) and NSW Seniors Festival (11-24 March).
