Community invited to comment on future of waste in Singleton
Published on 03 October 2023
The evolution of Singleton’s circular economy is taking a great leap forward and members of the community are being invited to have their say.
Singleton Council is seeking feedback on the draft Long Term Waste Strategy 2023 – 2033, which has been developed to ensure there is a clear plan for the provision of environmentally sustainable waste management services for the Singleton community and provides a well-structured program over the next 10 years that will ensure Council delivers services that residents want and need, and that is value for money.
Justin Fitzpatrick-Barr, Council’s Director Infrastructure and Planning Services said the strategy was developed in response to the State Government-directed target of 80% waste diverted away from landfill by 2030.
“The way we manage waste is evolving, and we want our community’s input to guide the future waste services that Council provides for you,” he said.
“Earlier this year, we engaged extensively with our community through an online survey, which received 600 responses, as well as several face-to-face drop-in sessions, which informed this draft document.
“Now on public exhibition, this is our community’s final chance to help us shape the way waste and resource recovery is delivered and managed across the Singleton local government area.
“Your input ensures we're balancing the services you want with the cost of delivering them. This is a really important step in finding solutions that close the loop on waste — with your feedback directing things like recycling, kerbside bulk waste, mattress recycling and more.
“I urge everyone to view the document online or at Council’s Administration Building, Library or Visitor Information Centre and have your say from now until 30 October.”
