Career opportunities at Singleton Council continue to be five-star

Singleton Council has retained its five-star rating as a great place to work for the fourth consecutive year in the 2025 annual review of the human resources industry’s top performers.
The 2025 HRD 5-Star Employers of Choice list was determined following a rigorous three-month process based on precise criteria as well as valuable insight and honest feedback from employees.
Singleton Council General Manager Justin Fitzpatrick-Barr said the award recognised Council’s dedication to its workforce in a range of areas including employee benefits, opportunities for career progression and development, and overarching people-first approach.
He said Council was particularly proud of the Future Ready Singleton program introduced this year, which has seen the recruitment of seven apprentices, trainees and cadets in a range of fields.
“Local government is a vastly diverse industry and there’s such a broad range of professions, trades and skill sets working every day with a shared goal to deliver the best possible services to our community,” Mr Fitzpatrick-Barr said.
“With that in mind, our organisation is committed to supporting our staff in the best way, from health and wellbeing initiatives including wellbeing leave and flexible work options, right through to opportunities for career growth and enhancement.
“This award is great reinforcement that the approach we’re taking doesn’t just make Singleton Council a great employer, but an industry leader.”
Chris Sweeney, Managing Editor for Special Reports at HRD said employees shared their valuable insight and honest feedback to determine the 5-Star Employers of Choice.
“Singleton Council was recognised for fostering an inclusive and supportive working culture. They also led the way in delivering for their staff by placing an importance on key issues such as employee development,” he said.
The entry process for HRD 2025 5-Star Employer of Choice comprised two steps: an employer submission followed by an employee survey. First, organisations had to complete an in-depth submission to explain their various offerings and practices. Next, employees from nominated organisations were asked to fill out an anonymous form evaluating their workplace on a number of metrics, including benefits, compensation, culture, employee development, and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
To be considered, each organisation had to reach a minimum number of employee responses based on overall size. Organisations that achieved a 75% or greater average satisfaction rating from employees were named 5-Star Employers of Choice for 2025.
