All the magic of the festive season celebrated at Christmas on John St
Published on 18 December 2024
Singleton’s Town Centre was overtaken with the spirit of the festive season on Friday 6 December as an estimated 8000 people came together to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year at Christmas on John Street.
From live entertainment to Christmas crafts, markets, free activities for the young and young at heart through to a visit from Santa himself, Christmas on John Street is an annual demonstration that Christmas and community spirit is well and truly alive in Singleton.
John Street, Burns Lane and the Ryan Avenue Council carpark were overtaken with live entertainment including performances from local dance groups and bands, jumping castles, balloon twisting, circus workshops, face painting and a silent disco alongside food trucks, activity stations, Laneway Bar and the hugely popular event-first, a Christmas-themed light installation by Creative Sensory Spaces.
In what has become a beloved annual tradition, Santa arrived at Christmas on John Street in Singleton Fire Station’s vintage Bedford fire truck before he settled in his North Pole Grotto for free family photos, thanks to Singleton Rotary.
Ending the night with a bang, families flocked to Cook Park in Ryan Avenue to watch the night sky light up with an epic fireworks show supported by Yancoal.
Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore said Christmas on John Street was one of the highlights of the year.
“I’d go so far to say there isn’t any other community Christmas party that can match the spirit of Singleton,” she said.
“I love seeing so many people come out for Christmas on John Street to celebrate this wonderful time of the year together, and especially the smiles on everyone’s faces.
“Many hours of planning through to a lot of hard work on the night has gone into hosting Christmas on John Street, and it’s worth it when you see so many people out having a great time.”
