Council is proceeding with the works associated for the new Riverside Park on John St to be located at the site of the former Sutton dealership.

The concept plans by Terras Landscape Architects were endorsed by Council in 2016 and community feedback was invited during a public exhibition period.

The scope of the design includes:
  • Construction of a café space
  • Installation of two playgrounds - one for older children and one for younger children
  • Construction of public amenities
  • Footpath linkages to the river and existing cycleway
  • Lighting
  • Landscaping and casual seating

Council purchased the property in late 2013 comprising two parcels of land either side of John St. 

The project is being funded from developer contributions (section 94) towards public open space and voluntary planning agreements.

The project is scheduled for completion in May 2018.

Status as at 1 August 2017

The tenders for installation of the kiosk and playground closed on 1 August 2017.

The Major Projects team is now working on evaluating the tenders received. The preferred tender will be considered by Council at the meeting on 18 September.


Status as at 20 March 2017
The development application for the Riverside Park Project was approved on 6 March 2017.

The Major Projects team is now working to incorporate the consent conditions into the design.

The next step will be the construction tender process. 

Status as at 12 July 2016
90% of the design is being prepared and is under review by the PCG. 


Status as at 24 May 2016
Council has reviewed the 50 per cent design and provided comments to the architect for consideration. Council is proposing to reduce the size of the café to a kiosk-style facility. The designers have commenced working on the 75 per cent design.
