Place Making in Singleton
What is Place Making?
For web 1!_thumb.jpg
Place Making is about creating interesting public spaces designed for people! By investigating how people interact with their physical environment, places where they live, work and play, we can gain valuable insights into why a certain place is so important and how we can make it even better.

The success of Place Making is reliant upon the enthusiasm and participation of the local community; ownership of the space is integral to the transformation process. We urge you to get involved, share your ideas and inspire your local community!

Council is committed to creating places that people love. The Place Making program seeks to enhance existing spaces, create new ones and hold temporary or regular events that bring people together.

In 2012, Place Making workshops, facilitated by Council and Place Partners, were held in the town centre, Jerrys Plains, Broke, Bulga and Hermitage Road with the local communities to identify place making priorities.

In 2013, Council was successful in gaining funding from the Coal & Allied Community Development Fund that allowed for a full-time Place Making Coordinator for a period of two years. Over the course of two years a Place Making Coordinator worked closely with a number of villages in the Singleton LGA and began the implementation of the adopted Place Making Villages Strategy.

At this point in time Council has been unable to secure funding for the Place Making in Singleton program for 2016/17. However, Council is looking at every possible opportunity to achieve actions from the Place Making Villages Strategy across other Council departments according to what will already be delivered in the current operational plan for 2016/17.
