New General Waste bin roll out - what you need to know

NEW GENERAL WASTE BIN ROLL OUT

Singleton Council has engaged JR Richards & Sons to perform the general waste collections (red bin), commencing 5th November 2018, where new bins will be issued.

What are the key dates I need to know, and which bin should I use when?
FROM 5/11/18 – continue to use your OLD red lid/green body bin until your NEW black body bin is delivered.
5/11/18 to 16/11/18 – Your NEW red lid/black body bins will be delivered. You can start using your new bins straight away – however, only 1 bin will be emptied.
ON 26/11/18 – Place your empty OLD red lid/green body bin out on the kerbside, upside down. These will be collected and will be taken away for recycling.
26/11/18 to 30/11/18 – Your empty OLD red lid/green body bins will be collected.
FROM 26/11/18 - Your old green body bins will not be emptied under the new contract.

When will my new bins be delivered?
New bins will be delivered between 5/11/18 to 16/11/18, you can then start using them straight away, however only 1 bin will be emptied. Residents should be advised to wait until the roll out is completed before inquiring out their bin.

What are the changes to the waste management collection service?
HRR, Solo and JR Richards have taken the opportunity to review collection runs. Because of this there have been some minor changes to days and/or weeks. Letters have been sent to all residents where their collection time has been affected.

My bins are fine, why am I getting a new bin?
The new contractor (JR Richards) will be responsible for the maintenance and replacement of all bins for the next 10 years. Although each household is different, many bins currently being used are approximately older than 10 years. Like everything else bins deteriorate over time due to exposure to weather and the mechanical stresses of carrying various weights, being wheeled in/out and the emptying process itself.

What do I do with my old bin?
You will be asked to place your empty old green body bin upside down at the kerbside on 26/11/2018 for collection during the coming week. The old bins will be taken away and recycled. All bins will be taken to a plastic recycler in Campbelltown for chipping, and then sent back to the manufacturer for reuse in new manufactured bins. All axles will go to a metal recycler. Wheels are the only component that cannot be recycled. The manufacturer uses 30% recycled materials in all our new bins.

What if I am away when the old bins are picked up? What if my tenants didn’t put the old bins out or I miss the pickup for some other reason?
If you know that you are going to be away, we suggest you either place your old bin out on the kerb, upside down before you leave, or ask a neighbour to put your old bins out before 26/11/2018.

My bin has been stolen, what should I do?
If your bin is stolen, you will need to contact the Police Hotline 131 444 and obtain a police event number. Then call the Waste Hotline for replacement. Call 1800 931 985 for further assistance.

My bin has been damaged, what should I do?
If your bin is damaged, you will need to contact the Waste Hotline for repair or replacement. Call 1800 931 985 for further assistance.

Residents who say they have not received a new black body bin.
All bins have a unique serial number that is scanned at the time of delivery and entered into a database. The waste hotline team are then able to check residential addresses to confirm delivery. If the bin has been stolen the resident will need to contact the Police Hotline 131 444 and obtain a police event number. Then call the Waste Hotline for replacement.

Can people get different size bins?
No, 240ltr general waste bins only are provided. If you require more bins, an additional service will need to be applied for.

Some residents haven’t received letters about their bins?
Letters have been mailed to all residents that have had their collection day/week affected. Advertising has appeared in the Singleton Argus during October and November regarding the rollout, information is available on the Council website and Facebook pages.

Can residents get additional bins?
Yes, the property owner will need to complete a “Waste Service Request – Application Form” and submit to Council.
